Degree and Work Experience
Sang Hyun Lee is currently Senior Research Fellow of the Sejong Institute, board member of the Institute of Nuclear Materials Management-Korea (INMM-K), and board member of the Asia-Pacific Leadership Network (APLN) for Nuclear Nonproliferation and Disarmament. He served as President of the Sejong Institute (2021~2024), researcher at the Korea Institute for Defense Analyses, Director-General for Policy Planning at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, a guest researcher at the Stockholm Institute for Security and Development Policy (ISDP) in Sweden, and a visiting researcher at the Stimson Center in Washington, DC. He received his B.A. and M.A. from Seoul National University and Ph.D. from the Department of Political Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1999. 

 

Publications
Sang Hyun Lee's main research interests include international politics and security, Korea-U.S. relations, inter-Korean relations, nuclear security and nonproliferation, and East Asian security issues. His recent publications include: Understanding South Korea’s National Security (2025, co-authored), “Simultaneity of Geopolitical Risks and the Networked Strategy in Military-Security Affairs” (2024), Cyber Security: Politics, Governance and Conflict in Cyberspace (co-translation, authored by Damien Van Puyvelde and Aaron F. Brantly, 2023), Biden Administration's Foreign Policy and the Korean Peninsula (2022, co-authored), and so on.
